API

An API is an interface that provides communication between two platforms. These platforms, such as the web and YouTube, exchange data with each other and can use parts that are part of the connected platform.

For example, if you want to display a map on your site with the location of your store, you would use the Google Map API. The map is displayed and you don't have to come up with your own solution to get the map on the site.

The principle of operation can be simplified as follows: a website or program sends a request for data, the API receives it and searches the database, then sends the website or program a response and the user is shown the desired result.

The goal of the API is to make the work of developers easier and to speed up the development of web or mobile applications. It makes it relatively easy to extend the functionality of the application and to connect different information systems.
